Spring clean-up

Spring clean-up: raked the driving strip, revealing lots of bulbs poking up underneath (mostly daffodils). Buds on the lilacs and peach tree. Pulled the leaf mulch away from all but one of the rose bushes. Trimmed the butterfly bushes, most of which didn’t seem to make it through the winter.

Filling the Raised Bed

Finished adding soil to the raised bed, and plant the two peas that Sage started in a peat pot two weeks ago. Then planted out the lettuce that I had in yoghurt containers under grow lights.
Put two pansy flats in pots on the front porch. Planted my peas, carrots, spinach, and mesclun mix in the raised bed – in the rain.

Raised Bed

Cleaned up most of the garden, except leaf mulch around the roses and lilacs.  Built a raised bed! 4 foot by 10 foot. You can read more about how I built it here.

Starting ipomoea

Started morning glory, cardinal climber, and moonflower seeds in peat pots.

Crocuses!

The crocuses are opening!

Transplanted the sapphire lobelia into a window box (though still indoors, of course). Soaked my morning glory, cardinal climber, and moonflower seeds. Started iberis and saponaria.

Crocuses are just about to open.

Clearing snow

I cleared the snow from my crocus and tete-a-tete’s. There is still much snow around the rest of the garden. But it’s nice to see some bare earth.

Desperate for Spring

My lobelia have emerged. Soil temp is only 65 degrees.
I am desperate for Spring.
Enough snow has melted to reveal my crocuses poking out about an inch.

The sweet william have emerged.

Started lobelia and sweet william in flats. Irises have been poking up under the drip line.
